Beyond just their looks, more and more research show that being surrounded by plants is good for us, offering benefits that include improved mental health, better sleep, and boosting feelings of connection during times of social isolation
Before you start browsing, you must plan, research, and study your home’s environmental condition and what type of houseplants can thrive in your home

Here are important tips for buying houseplants that you need to know
Factors to Consider
Light Conditions
● Every houseplant has different sun requirements. Some houseplants prefer bright, indirect light, some houseplants prefer full sun of at least six to eight hours each day, and some houseplants can tolerate partially sunny or shady conditions
● Check your home at different times of day to learn how much light your home receives, particularly the areas in which you’d like to display your houseplants
Temperature & Humidity
● Temperature & Humidity are very important factors in plant wellness
● Choose plants which can thrive in the temperature-zone you live in
● Most indoor locations have low humidity due to fans and A/C units that dry out the air. For this reason, it’s best to keep your plants away from radiators and A/C units
● If you desire a tropical plant, you’ll need to mist them daily to ensure the proper moisture level
Space & Size
● How much space do you have? If you live in the city, most likely you have limited floor space for houseplants, so we suggest hanging plants or small houseplants
● Floor plants will require more space than the table plants which can be also kept on windows and shelves. Also, consider foliage – you will require larger space for plants with thick foliage and large leaves which spread-out
Time
● How much time do you have? Some houseplants require more maintenance and TLC. If you are a traveling plant parent and forgetful, it’s best to choose drought-tolerant and hard-to-kill houseplants.
● Buy houseplants that match up your commitment level and plant parent personality
Buy Local whenever Possible
● Did you know that plants have a much greater chance of survival if they are planted close to where they were bought since the environments are similar?
Pets and Children
● Some plants may be toxic for pets and can cause severe problems if eaten. Similarly, some plants are not suitable if you have children.
● Check the information carefully before buying a plant to avoid any unfortunate incidents
Types of Houseplants
Air Purifier Plants
As the name suggest, these plants have air-purifying qualities
Lack of air flow allows for indoor air pollution to build up and cause health issues like asthma or sick building syndrome. Houseplants can absorb harmful toxins from the air, especially in enclosed spaces with little air flow
Indoor Plants
These are the plants which can thrive & grow in low light.
These plants won't crowd your windowsill and you won't have to stress about continuously turning them towards the sun
Furthermore, you'll be able to display the plants in the nooks and crannies you never thought were possible, like in your windowless bathroom or the corner of your bedroom that gets no natural sunlight
Low Maintainance Plants
For people who want to try out their green thumb first, these plants may be for you. While they don’t require daily care, most of them will thrive better if they get fertilized once a month
Flowering Plants
These plants will bloom with flowers – either seasonally or all-year round, depending upon the plant type you buy
Flowering plants can instantly add a dash of colour and freshness to brighten up a space
The basic rule of thumb for buying flowering plants is to purchase mature plants, not seeds, unless you have loads of patience and years to wait for them to flower
Cacti and Succulents
Succulents are plants with fleshy, thickened leaves and/or swollen stems that store water. If you’re looking to start your collection off small, or if you’re worried about keeping your new plant alive, succulents are a great option
They tend to be drought-tolerant and thrive in bright, direct sunlight. You can go up to 2 weeks without watering these desert dwellers. But you’ll want to make sure that you rotate them regularly in the sun, so they’ll stand up straight.
While not necessary, you can also fertilize succulents in the summer to provide light feedings.
Similarly, cacti are also easy to keep plants, as they’re typically native to dry climates and can be watered anywhere from every 10 to 14 days
Bonsai
A living tree or shrub which has been grown in a way which gives the impression of being a full-sized, mature tree
Bonsai trees are generally grown in shallow ceramic pots. A bonsai is not a species of tree; in fact, many species of tree can be turned into bonsai through various techniques
Caring for Houseplants
Watering your Plant
● The most time-intensive part of plant care is watering your plants. It’s also the most common way that people kill their plants
● Over watering or underwatering both can lead to the plant dying
● How often you should water your plant depends on the type of plant you have
● Read the care instructions carefully to understand the water requirements and frequency of watering
Fertilizing your Plants
● Everyone knows they need to water their plants, but many people overlook the importance of fertilizer.
● Plants will extract nutrients from the soil, and over time that soil will become depleted.
● Using fertilizer helps keep your soil nutrient-rich so your plants stay happy and healthy.
● For specific fertilizer instructions, follow the care instructions for your specific plant
Wiping your Plants
● At least once every few weeks, you should wipe your plant’s leaves with a moist paper towel or cotton fabric
● Dust on your plant’s leaves can cause all sorts of problems. They can block light absorption and clog the pores of the leaves, preventing transpiration from happening. This can have a negative effect on your plant’s health and cause it to look dull
Trimming / Clipping your Plants
● It’s important to regularly cut off dead leaves and trim back overgrown stems
● This will help your plant to grow to its fullest potential and look fresh & healthy
Going on Vacation
● Please make sure to keep your internal doors open for better air circulation, and leave at least some of your blinds open to give your plants the light they need to survive
● Depending on where your plants are placed, you may want to move them into a room with better light & air circulation while you are gone
