Types of Dhurries
Machine Made
Power-loomed dhurries are woven on a loom by a computer-controlled machine which gives them precise designs
These are generally the most affordable as well as being quite durable, they are a great choice for any room
Flat Weave
Refers to a style of mat-like dhurries without pile
Flatweaves come in a variety of materials (wool, cotton, and synthetics are common) and are very durable, but they don't come on any sort of backing
Since flatweave dhurries are reversible (the pattern is visible on both sides, so you can flip them), they work especially well in high-traffic areas like entryways, family rooms, and playrooms
Material Options
Wood Jute Handmade Dhurries
Handmade jute wool dhurries are wrapped in wool and weft in jute
The ratio is usually 30% wool and 70% jute
These are woven on a loom and are flat-weave type, which makes them reversible (Design is visible from both sides)
Hemp Handmade Dhurries
Hemp is made of natural jute material. These are reversible and have a thickness of minimum 10 mm
Hemp jute dhurries are rougher compared to cotton flat weave ones
Cotton Flat Weave Dhurries
These are the finest quality dhurries with 100% fast colour
Wet dyeing process is used to colour cotton dhurries, and the dyeing process is done multiple times for colour fixing
These dhurries come in bold floral and geometrical patterns
Cotton dhurries are reversible and are extremely durable
100% environmentally friendly, these dhurries are laborious to make, and sometimes take 45 days or more to weave a single piece
